BIG NEWS!!! [08 Jan 2008|08:15pm]

[ mood | jubilant ]

" Hey! Happy New Year!

Superdrag would like to wish you peace, joy, happiness and health in 2008. This is going to be a great year. Our utmost gratitude goes out to each and every one of you who traveled distances great or small and otherwise made all manner of noble efforts to come out and support us on our 8 reunion shows last year. To know that, even after all this time, so many of you still find meaning in our music and still care about it is a great gift and a blessing. Thank you. Our sincere appreciation goes out to the other bands that played, our brothers and friends: The Lonely Hearts, Stewart Pack, and Mic Harrison & The High Score. Thanks. And thanks to Jason Kochis, whose poster designs clearly ruled the school.

And so, onward and upward into the future! There are several Superdrag and Superdrag-related news items to report that might be of interest. First and foremost, there are more shows in the works. We will appear on a co-headlining bill with ex-labelmates and old friends Nada Surf on April 11, 2008 at Terminal 5 in New York, NY. Further dates for this Spring and beyond are currently being added, so stay tuned! Brothers and sisters west of the Mississippi, your voices ARE being heard and we are trying our best to get some touring together in the Western half of the U.S. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

THE USED (TO BE), Superdrag's "Punk Rock Predecessors", will be appearing live and in-person on Friday, March 28 at Barley's Taproom in Knoxville, TN, playing selections from their debut long-player, Shameless Self-Destruction, and other favorites. 200 E. Jackson Ave., Knoxville, TN 37915. This show will be presented by Derek and Robbie from The Funhouse. Also on the bill: Knoxville's legendary Rude Street Peters. Long story short, this show is not to be missed. In other news, John Davis (yours truly) will be appearing on February 15 at Barley's Taproom along with locals The Leningrads and The Sparks in support of Blood: Water Mission and the ONE Campaign. Every dollar in proceeds from the door will directly benefit Blood:Water Mission, and the compilation CD being released simultaneously (featuring John Davis, Stewart Pack, others) and offered for sale will benefit various charities through the ONE organization. All in all, this promises to be a good night for charity, and a good night for Rock in Knoxville. Please visit BloodWaterMission.com if you're interested in who they are, what they're doing and why. We need your help.

Lastly, the rumors are true, it's official: Superdrag's original line-up will reconvene in the recording studio in February to begin work on our first new recording project together since 1998's "Head Trip In Every Key." I can't say much more about the songs themselves (apart from what's already been posted on our MySpace page which will be the only "official" taste of the new music until the record drops), but I will say that this HAS to be our best album, otherwise there's really no point, is there? We are wholly committed to breaking the Law of Physics that states, "REUNION ALBUMS, BY DEFINITION, MUST BE TERRIBLE." So we'll see how it goes! Personally, I am really excited about the way the new music is unfolding and I hope you will be too. I am really thankful to be working on new music with Brandon, Don and Tom this year.

With Warm Regards And Best Wishes For 2008,
Sincerely,
John, Don, Brandon & Tom
Superdrag"

This community seems to be as dead as Superdrag is. But, I assure you, John Davis is far from dead as I had the pleasure of seeing him perform and meeting him in person tonight. I have to say I really liked his solo stuff. It sounds just like Superdrag, just as hard rocking anyway, except...most of his songs are about faith and religion. I really didn't mind it even though I don't share that mindset. It really was a great show. If he's around in your town, I reccomend you go see him and say hi. He's really a friendly guy.

Hey I went into a pawn shop the other day and was looking through the dollar cd bin. I came across a cd called Volume 94:A Knoxville Complilation. Being a huge Superdrag fan, I knew that they are from Knoxville. I looked at the track listing and there they were with the track "Bloody Hell". So I go and look at the website and there is the album. I was wondering if anyone else has this cd or if they know how rare of a find this is.

Need honest listener/fan feedback for seven free mp3s [22 Jan 2004|12:05pm]

powerpopzen
The first seven mp3 demos for indie rockpunk/power pop project Bedroom Politics are below for your free download. However, read this explanation first.

This music will more than likely have a lot of appeal for fans of Guided By Voices, Beck, the Kicks, Superdrag, Foo Fighters, Weezer, Ozma, Jimmy Eat World, the Ultimate Fakebook, and similar bands.

So, grab and listen to as many of these songs as you can/want to and tell me what you think - I need feedback to determine for sure which songs are better than others... but keep two things in mind.

Firstly, these are merely DEMOS (not final recordings - don't judge by SOUND quality, rather, the quality of the SONG).

Secondly, some (mostly any of the female) if not all, of the vocals will most likely be redone with a good, solid version of the male voice you will hear.

I want to know if you prefer a song (or songs) to others, all of them, none, etc. But if you do/don't like them, I need to know WHY. That's the most important part. I figured opinions from tons of people I don't know would be less biased.

Right-click and "Save Target As" already. (You probably knew how to do that.)

Also, feel free to contact me if you happen to like most or all of those bands (or other catchy and punchy/slightly quirky power pop/indie rock with serious hooks) - especially if you are located in the (Manchester) New Hampshire area.

Take care, everyone, and thanks. This message has indeed been cross-posted in order for me to receive the most blunt, scathing and honest criticisms from mostly complete strangers that I possibly can! Bring it.

The KICKS! [12 Jan 2004|01:32pm]

powerpopzen
[ mood | okay ]

Hi everyone!

I figured this may be a good place to alert fans of good catchy music.

This band, called the Kicks (formerly Ashtray Babyhead).. think Weezer + Superdrag but more rock and less geek - have an amazing new album.

Now, the only reason I mention them is that I was blown away by this album. And the posting below of the fan community devoted to them is not shameless promo, but merely a place for fans to meet - if you happen to like them, stop by and tell us so!

http://www.livejournal.com/community/the_kicks

Check them out, TRUST ME.

I don't think you're going to be disappointed, rather, blown away.

The Kicks are from Little Rock, Arkansas. Prepare to be enlightened, if you're into the incredibly hooky, powerful, fun rock-pop-punkish (power pop!) singalong type stuff. Must be heard to be appreciated. There are links on that community page, but specifically

http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/kicks

to hear 3 songs - "Mir" is the single. Just a little heads-up.. it's good to spread around new music! Hit me up with some too! I love the reccomendations.

(This fuckin album immediately became my favorite album of ALL TIME after I heard it. Enjoy, and good luck getting it out of your CD player if you happen to buy it.)

Peace, rock and take care
Jake

hey everyone [05 May 2003|10:07am]

Superdrag might be breaking up today. Here's this thing from the site:

Hey Kids: John D. here. Sorry I'm just now able to make any kind of comment on all this; I had some personal business to attend to immediately after the tour, and this is actually the first chance I've had to get on-line at all. I feel like I, or rather we, owe y'all an explanation about what's been going on, and what's gonna be going on with Superdrag. Trust me, we'll be issuing some kind of definitive statement by the first of the week or so that should clear up any questions you might have, including the scoop on Sam, straight from the horse's mouth so to speak. Thanks for giving a shit. Love, John

So we should know today or tomorrow. I guess.

How sad. I love Superdrag. :(
